Flossing, for some, can seem like a tedious task. This is one reason why some people seldom bother to floss at all! And yet, all it takes is a little practise and patience to master the art of flossing.
Here are some simple steps to guide you on to flossing mastery:
- To begin, take about 18 inches of floss. Wrap both ends around your middle fingers, and use your thumbs and index fingers to pinch the floss. Make sure to leave a space(about 2 inches) in between both fingers.
- With a gentle “shoeshine” motion, guide the floss in between your teeth. Be careful not to “snap” the floss in between teeth.
- While holding the floss firmly with your fingers, slide the floss gently, in an up-and-down motion. When the floss hits the gumline, form a “c” shape upon flossing, so that it will follow the contours of your tooth.
- Remember to use fresh sections of the floss when flossing each tooth.
